Naproxen belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It is used for the treatment of primary dysmenorrhoea (period pain) in women aged 16 to 50 years old.

Description

Naproxen works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body.

Warnings

Naproxen Warning: avoid if you are allergic or have shown any hypersensitivity reactions e.g. nasal polyps, swelling, developed a rash. Avoid if have a history of gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation related to NSAID therapy, have an active or previous peptic ulcer. Do not use if you have a history of asthma, any problem related to the liver, kidney or heart condition. 

 

Directions

On the first day 2 tablets (500 mg) should be taken initially and then one tablet (250 mg) after 6 to 8 hours if needed. On the second and third day, if needed, one tablet (250mg) should be taken every 6 to 8 hours. Not more than 3 tablets to be taken per day.  

The maximum duration of continuous treatment in any one cycle (period) is 3 days.

 

Ingredients

Lactose, starch (maize), polyvinyl pyrrolidone, sodium starch glycollate. magnesium stearate and quinoline yellow (E104).

Side Effects

Like all medicines, Naproxen Tablets can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The most common side effects reported include: heartburn, indigestion, constipation, stomach ache, feeling sick or being sick, gaseous bowels. In the case of a medical emergency, take prompt medical action and contact the emergency services.
