Rhinolast is an antihistamine nasal spray used to relieve the symptoms of allergic rhinitis, including hay fever and year-round allergies. It is designed to target common allergy symptoms such as sneezing, nasal congestion, itching and a runny nose. By acting directly inside the nasal passages, Rhinolast helps reduce irritation caused by allergens such as pollen, dust mites and pet dander.

Rhinolast contains azelastine hydrochloride, an antihistamine that works by blocking histamine, the chemical released during an allergic reaction. When histamine is blocked, symptoms such as sneezing and itching are reduced. Because it works locally in the nose, it provides targeted relief where symptoms occur.

Many people experience improvement within a short period of use. When used regularly as directed, Rhinolast can help keep allergy symptoms under control, making it easier to breathe comfortably during allergy season or throughout the year.

How should I take Rhinolast?

Rhinolast should be used exactly as directed by your healthcare professional or according to the instructions in the patient information leaflet. It is usually sprayed into each nostril once or twice daily, depending on the severity of your symptoms and medical advice.

Before first use, prime the spray by pumping it a few times until a fine mist appears. Gently blow your nose to clear the nostrils. Keep your head slightly tilted forward, insert the nozzle into one nostril and close the other nostril with your finger. Press down on the pump to release a spray while breathing in gently through your nose. Repeat in the other nostril if required.

Avoid spraying into your eyes. After use, wipe the nozzle clean and replace the cap securely. Do not exceed the recommended dose. If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember, but do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

What ingredients are in Rhinolast?

Rhinolast contains the active ingredient azelastine hydrochloride, an antihistamine that helps relieve allergy symptoms by blocking the effects of histamine. In addition to the active ingredient, the spray contains inactive components that preserve and stabilise the solution. These may include benzalkonium chloride as a preservative, disodium edetate, sodium chloride and purified water.

The exact formulation may vary slightly depending on the manufacturer. Always check the patient information leaflet supplied with your product for a complete and accurate list of ingredients, particularly if you have allergies or sensitivities.

Warnings and precautions

Rhinolast may not be suitable for everyone. You should speak to a healthcare professional before using it if you have frequent nosebleeds, recent nasal surgery or injury, untreated nasal infections or chronic sinus problems. If you have kidney or liver conditions, or a history of sensitivity to antihistamines, medical advice is recommended.

Although Rhinolast works mainly in the nasal passages, mild drowsiness can occur in some people. If you feel sleepy or dizzy, avoid driving or operating machinery. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or taking other medicines, including over-the-counter allergy treatments, consult your pharmacist or GP before starting Rhinolast. Always use the recommended dose and do not exceed it without professional guidance.

What are side effects of Rhinolast?

Rhinolast is generally well tolerated, but some people may experience side effects. The most commonly reported effects include a bitter or unusual taste in the mouth, nasal irritation or burning, nosebleeds, headache and mild drowsiness. These symptoms are usually temporary and often improve with continued use.

Less commonly, some individuals may notice dry mouth, sneezing immediately after application or throat irritation. Although rare, more serious side effects can occur, including severe allergic reactions, swelling of the face or throat, persistent nosebleeds or significant nasal discomfort. If you experience difficulty breathing, severe swelling, or any unusual or worsening symptoms, seek medical advice promptly.

In some cases, Rhinolast can be used alongside other treatments such as steroid nasal sprays or eye drops. Always seek professional advice before combining medications.
