Insect bites can sometimes become infected, causing discomfort and redness. Through the NHS Pharmacy First service, our expert pharmacists can assess your symptoms and provide effective treatment—without the need to visit your GP.

This service helps patients showing signs of an infected insect bite—such as redness, swelling, or pus at the site. Our pharmacist will assess the bite and, if necessary, offer prescription-strength treatment directly from the pharmacy.
This treatment is available to adults and children with infected bites. It’s especially helpful if the bite isn’t improving with home remedies or is getting worse. If the infection is severe or accompanied by fever, we may refer you for further care.

After a short in-pharmacy consultation, you may be supplied with an antibiotic cream or oral treatment if appropriate. You’ll also get advice on cleaning the area, reducing inflammation, and avoiding further irritation.
Symptoms such as redness, warmth, swelling, or pus usually improve within a few days of treatment. We’ll guide you on how to care for the bite, what signs to look out for, and when to seek further medical attention if needed.
