Atovaquone/Proguanil Price Comparison UK: Generic Malarone
Malarone price comparison: 12 generic 250mg/100mg tablets from £36 at The Care Pharmacy, plus delivery. Start consultation.

For malaria prevention, compare the doxycycline price for your whole course, including the days before and after travel. We offer 50 × 100mg capsules for £22 before delivery. At our 21 October 2026 check, matching packs cost £9.99 at Medino and £19.99 at WePrescribe. Your destination, travel dates and health determine whether doxycycline is suitable and how many capsules you need.
Our 50-capsule pack costs £25.99 including £3.99 standard delivery. Medino’s matching pack comes to £13.48 with its £3.49 standard postage; WePrescribe’s comes to £22.94 using its £2.95 standard option. These totals use the advertised standard delivery charges checked on 21 October 2026. Confirm your final quote before paying.
We supply doxycycline and have included our price alongside the two other pharmacies we checked on 21 October 2026, without discount codes. Medino had the lowest price of the three. Delivery services and assessment routes differ, so this is not a comparison of every UK pharmacy or every service.
| Provider | Medicine price | Listed delivery used | Worked total |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Care Pharmacy | £22.00 | £3.99 standard | £25.99 |
| Medino | £9.99 | £3.49 standard | £13.48 |
| WePrescribe | £19.99 | £2.95 standard | £22.94 |
All three medicine prices are for 50 × 100mg capsules for malaria prevention. Our pack and Medino’s were available when checked. Stock can change, and a clinical assessment is needed before supply.
The medicine-only difference between our pack and Medino’s is £12.01. Including the listed delivery charges, the difference is £12.51. Against WePrescribe, our medicine price is £2.01 higher and the delivered difference is £3.05. Check the total for your order, as postage changes the difference between the medicine prices.
WePrescribe also offers a 100-capsule pack. That is a different purchase, even when the price per capsule looks attractive. Ask for the quantity needed for your itinerary rather than ordering a larger pack solely to reduce the unit cost.
The UK malaria prevention guidance describes doxycycline prevention as a daily medicine started one or two days before entering a risk area, continued throughout the stay and for four weeks afterwards. Your clinician must confirm whether this regimen is suitable.
For example, two days before travel, 14 days in a malaria area and 28 days afterwards add up to 44 daily capsules. That is a planning example, not a prescription. Your arrival and departure dates, route and time in the risk area can change the count.
A 50-capsule pack therefore does not mean 50 days on holiday. Much of the supply may be taken after you return. If your trip is longer, ask the clinician to calculate the full course and quote for that quantity; do not leave the final weeks out of the budget.
Write down each stop on a multi-country trip, including overnight stays and visits to rural areas. Advice can differ within a country. A beach stay, a city connection and several weeks visiting relatives may need different assessments even when the flights have the same destination.
Our delivery policy lists Royal Mail Tracked 24 at £3.99, with free standard delivery for orders over £40. One £22 pack falls below that threshold. Approval and dispatch come before the carrier’s delivery period, so ordering today does not guarantee arrival tomorrow.
Medino includes a pharmacist assessment under a Patient Group Direction, or PGD: an authorised framework allowing suitable patients to receive the medicine after assessment. Doxycycline remains a prescription-only medicine. This route should not be mistaken for buying an ordinary unrestricted shop product.
WePrescribe requires a clinical consultation. Its £2.95 standard service is a slower delivery option than some express services. Medino’s quoted standard postage is also distinct from its higher-priced Tracked 24 option. Compare the timing you need as well as the bill.
Before paying, check the proposed quantity, delivery address and any additional charge. If departure is close, tell the pharmacy your travel date before relying on postal supply. A nearby travel clinic may be more practical when an assessment or supply cannot be completed in time.
Doxycycline is an antibiotic with several uses. This article concerns malaria prevention; acne or infection prescriptions can involve different directions and quantities. The NHS doxycycline guide explains the medicine more broadly. Do not use leftover capsules from another condition as a travel course.
Doxycycline can increase sensitivity to sunlight. Discuss sun protection and your planned activities, particularly if the trip involves long days outdoors. Antacids and supplements containing minerals can affect absorption; ask a pharmacist how to space them from your dose.
Interactions also matter with medicines such as warfarin, some epilepsy treatments and oral typhoid vaccination. The clinician needs a complete list, including non-prescription products. A previous trouble-free course does not replace a fresh check if your health or medicines have changed.
Take each dose according to your own dispensing label. Swallow doxycycline with a glass of water while sitting or standing, and avoid lying down for at least 30 minutes afterwards. Follow any longer interval advised in your supplied leaflet. This helps reduce irritation of the food pipe. Avoid taking it just before bed.
Plan a regular time that works with meals, travel days and any medicines that need separating. Keep the labelled supply with you and follow the leaflet’s storage instructions. If you vomit after a dose, develop troublesome diarrhoea or miss doses, ask for advice rather than guessing how many extra capsules to take.
Malaria tablets cannot replace protection against mosquito bites. The NHS malaria guidance recommends measures including insect repellent, covered skin and mosquito nets where appropriate. Arrange travel advice ideally four to six weeks before departure, but still seek it for a last-minute trip.
Fever, shivering or flu-like illness during travel need prompt medical help; do not wait until you fly home. After returning, seek urgent GP advice or NHS 111 if symptoms could be malaria and you have visited a risk area in the past 12 months. Tell the clinician where you travelled, even if you took every dose.
It buys the listed 50 × 100mg capsule pack before delivery. The required course depends on the time in the malaria area and the doses before and afterwards. Ask for a full-course count before ordering.
First confirm that doxycycline is appropriate for your destination and medical history. Once the treatment and quantity are agreed, compare those exact packs and their full charges.
No. These offers and course examples concern malaria prevention. The indication and prescribed directions matter even when the capsule strength is the same.
No. Both Medino and WePrescribe have lower advertised prices for the matching pack under the checked terms. Our starting price remains £22 plus delivery.
Follow the complete prescribed course. Doxycycline malaria prevention normally continues for four weeks after leaving the risk area; returning home does not remove that part of the regimen.
Have your itinerary and medicine list ready. We can assess whether malaria prevention is appropriate and confirm the required quantity and full cost before you decide.
Pricing note: Public offers checked on 21 October 2026 across the named providers only. Prices, fees, availability and delivery terms can change. Confirm the final quote before paying.
Medical information: This guide provides general information and does not replace individual advice. Prescription medicines require clinical assessment; treatment and supply are not guaranteed. Follow your own dispensing label and patient leaflet.
