Can You Take Paracetamol With Sumatriptan for Migraine?
Can you take paracetamol with sumatriptan? Understand adult migraine combination treatment, dose checks, hidden ingredients and when to seek advice.
Sumatriptan prices depend on the strength, tablet quantity and any prescription or delivery fees. In our UK sample checked on 8 October 2026, six 50mg tablets cost between £14.80 and £16 before separately charged fees. Match your prescribed strength first, then compare the complete order cost. A cheaper 100mg pack is not a reason to change your dose.

The lowest medicine price is not always the lowest delivered total. Boots Online Doctor lists six 50mg tablets at £16.00 with free standard delivery. The Care Pharmacy lists the matching pack at £14.99, or £18.98 after standard delivery. Dr Fox lists £14.80, plus a £2.00 prescription fee and £2.90 delivery: £19.70 in total.
These examples cover one pack, one standard-delivery order and no discount code. They show why a small headline saving can disappear once fees are included. This is a dated sample of providers, not a claim to have found the cheapest option in the whole UK.
Keep six-tablet and twelve-tablet packs in separate columns. All entries below are for sumatriptan tablets rather than nasal sprays or injections, with medicine prices before any separately charged fees.
| Provider | 6 tablets | 12 tablets |
|---|---|---|
| The Care Pharmacy | £14.99 | £27.99 |
| Dr Fox | £14.80 | £26.00 |
| Boots Online Doctor | £16.00 | Not verified in this sample |
The twelve-tablet prices are lower per tablet than buying two separate six-tablet packs at the same provider. That arithmetic does not establish how much treatment you should have. Your prescriber should check quantity, how often you need it and whether your migraine plan is still suitable.
These figures apply only if 100mg is the strength prescribed or recommended for you. They should not be used to turn a 50mg prescription into a different treatment plan.
| Provider | 6 tablets | 12 tablets |
|---|---|---|
| The Care Pharmacy | £12.99 | £19.99 |
| Dr Fox | £13.00 | £19.50 |
| Boots Online Doctor | £19.00 | Not verified in this sample |
In this sample, The Care Pharmacy and Dr Fox charge less for six 100mg tablets than for six 50mg tablets. Prices do not follow a simple rule that more medicine always costs more. Choose the clinically appropriate strength, then compare suppliers of that exact pack.
The Care Pharmacy’s standard delivery is £3.99, free on orders over £40.00. Premium delivery costs extra. No separate prescription charge was displayed with the treatment prices checked.
Dr Fox charges a prescription fee linked to medicine order value: £1.00 up to £10.00, £2.00 up to £20.00, £3.00 up to £40.00 and £4.00 above that. Standard delivery adds £2.90. Boots advertises free standard delivery for its migraine service.
| Pack | The Care Pharmacy | Dr Fox | Boots Online Doctor |
|---|---|---|---|
| 50mg, 6 tablets | £18.98 | £19.70 | £16.00 |
| 50mg, 12 tablets | £31.98 | £31.90 | Not verified |
| 100mg, 6 tablets | £16.98 | £17.90 | £19.00 |
| 100mg, 12 tablets | £23.98 | £24.40 | Not verified |
Check your final quote before paying. These totals exclude discounts, membership benefits, other medicines and premium delivery. Adding products to cross a free-delivery threshold may increase your spending rather than save money.

For six 50mg tablets from The Care Pharmacy, the medicine-only cost is about £2.50 per tablet. With standard delivery, the supplied-tablet cost is about £3.16. For twelve tablets, the corresponding figures are about £2.33 and £2.67. All figures are rounded to the nearest penny.
A tablet count is not a count of migraine attacks successfully treated. Some attacks may not respond; a prescribed repeat dose may be appropriate in some circumstances. Do not estimate your needs by assuming every attack always takes one tablet or by using another person’s routine.
Nor is a twelve-tablet pack automatically a month’s supply. Sumatriptan treats attacks; it is not a daily prevention medicine. If frequent use is making the budget difficult, tell your GP how often attacks occur and how many medicine days you have.
Sumatriptan is an active ingredient. Imigran is a brand containing it, and prices for branded medicine can differ from generic tablet prices. A nasal spray is also a different preparation from a tablet, even when the ingredient has the same name. Those products are outside these tables.
Some small sumatriptan packs have a pharmacy supply route with specific eligibility checks. Do not compare a two-tablet pharmacy pack with six prescription tablets without noting the difference. Ask a pharmacist which supply route fits your treatment history.
Before ordering, check the medicine name, strength and quantity on your current prescription or treatment instructions. Ask the pharmacist if the listing is unclear. Packaging may differ between manufacturers, but that does not justify guessing the contents.
A lower price can be useful when the same treatment remains suitable. A new provider still needs an accurate history. Explain your usual symptoms, prescribed strength, response, side effects and how often you use migraine medicines. Tell them about any recent treatment change rather than leaving it out to make ordering quicker.
A dispatch promise usually depends on approval, stock and order timing. A consultation can lead to referral or refusal, so do not leave essential treatment planning until your last tablet has gone. Ask your pharmacy about realistic timing without assuming next-day delivery is guaranteed.
NHS sumatriptan guidance explains that the medicine treats migraine attacks rather than preventing them. It is not an ordinary painkiller for every type of headache. A diagnosis and your previous response matter more than the lowest price.
Tell the clinician about heart or circulation disease, previous stroke or mini-stroke, uncontrolled blood pressure, liver problems, pregnancy or breastfeeding. Also disclose antidepressants and all other migraine medicines. The NHS suitability guidance and interaction advice describe important checks.
If tablets repeatedly fail, speak to your clinician about a migraine treatment review. Buying a larger pack should not replace a review. Call 999 for a sudden extremely severe headache, new weakness or speech problems, or serious chest pain.
Check the dispensing pharmacy in the GPhC register. The NHS medicines information guide warns that medicines from unregistered websites may be fake, unsuitable or unsafe. A social-media price and a familiar-looking box are not reliable checks.
Look for a clear pharmacy identity, a proper assessment and a way to ask questions. Price comparison helps you budget for suitable treatment; it cannot confirm that a seller’s medicine or prescribing process is safe.
Only compare prices for the strength appropriate for you. The cheaper pack in a table is not permission to change dose, split tablets or alter your prescription.
Not always. Our medicine tables exclude separate fees; the delivered examples add the standard charges verified for one pack. Your final order may differ.
Ask the prescriber about a suitable quantity. Unit-price savings do not outweigh expiry, changing symptoms or a need to review frequent migraine medicine use.
The Care Pharmacy can assess whether sumatriptan tablets are suitable for your diagnosed migraine. Have your current medicine list and treatment history ready, so a prescriber can consider an appropriate strength and quantity.
