Comprehensive Testosterone Check, the complete picture of your hormone health

If you want more than a simple testosterone reading, the Advanced Testosterone Check goes deep. Measuring 47 biomarkers from a single blood sample, it looks not only at your full testosterone profile but also at the wider systems that influence how you feel day to day, from your blood count and thyroid to your liver, kidneys, cholesterol and blood sugar.

This is our recommended test if you have symptoms you want to understand fully, if a basic test flagged something worth exploring, or if you simply want a thorough baseline of your hormone health and general wellbeing. Because it captures so much in one go, it helps our clinicians see the full context behind your testosterone, not just an isolated number.

What this test covers

This comprehensive panel groups its 47 biomarkers across the areas that matter most for men’s hormone health and general wellbeing:

  • Full hormone profile, including total and free testosterone, SHBG, albumin and related hormones that influence testosterone production and balance, giving a complete view of your active hormone levels.
  • Full blood count, assessing red cells, white cells and platelets, which can affect energy, immunity and general health.
  • Liver function, key enzymes and proteins that show how well your liver is working.
  • Kidney function, markers that reflect how effectively your kidneys are filtering.
  • Cholesterol and lipids, including your overall cholesterol balance, an important part of heart and metabolic health.
  • Diabetes and blood sugar, markers used to screen for and monitor blood glucose control.
  • Thyroid function, since thyroid activity has a strong influence on energy, weight and mood.
  • Additional wellbeing markers, further tests that round out the picture of your general health.

The exact biomarkers included will be listed in full on this page. Please confirm the final list before publishing.

Why 47 biomarkers, and why it matters

Testosterone does not act in isolation. Your liver and kidneys affect how hormones are processed, your thyroid and blood sugar affect your energy and mood, and your blood count and cholesterol reflect your wider health. By measuring all of these together, this test helps our team understand whether a testosterone result is the whole story, or a sign of something else worth addressing. It saves you taking several separate tests and gives a joined-up view in one sample.

Who this test may suit

  • Men with ongoing symptoms such as fatigue, low mood, reduced libido, erectile difficulties, weight change or poor concentration who want a thorough investigation.
  • Men whose basic testosterone test flagged a result worth exploring in more detail.
  • Men who want a comprehensive baseline of their hormone health and general wellbeing.
  • Men monitoring their health over time and wanting a fuller picture with each check.

This is a screening and wellbeing test, not a diagnosis. Our team will explain what your results mean and recommend appropriate next steps, which may include repeat testing or a discussion with your GP.

How to take your Comprehensive Testosterone Check

Your kit contains everything you need to collect a blood sample at home and return it to the laboratory. This comprehensive test needs a slightly larger sample than a basic check, so please read the full instruction leaflet inside your kit before you begin. The steps below are a summary.

Before you test

  1. Test in the morning, testosterone and several other markers are most accurate first thing. Take your sample between 7am and 10am.
  2. Check the fasting guidance, because this panel includes cholesterol and blood sugar markers, you may be asked to fast (no food, only water) beforehand. Follow the specific instructions supplied with your kit.
  3. Avoid testing when unwell, wait until you have recovered from any acute illness, and avoid heavy exercise in the 24 hours before your sample.
  4. Register your kit, activate or register your test using the details provided so the laboratory can match your sample to you.

Collecting your sample

  1. Wash your hands in warm water and keep them warm to encourage blood flow.
  2. Clean your fingertip with the alcohol wipe provided and allow it to dry.
  3. Use the lancet to prick the side of your fingertip, then gently massage from the base of the finger towards the tip to form drops of blood.
  4. Fill the collection tube to the marked line. This test requires a fuller sample than a basic check, so take your time and warm your hands again if the flow slows. Cap and gently invert the tube if instructed to mix the sample.
  5. Apply the plaster provided once you have finished.

Returning your sample

  1. Complete the details on the sample tube and request form, including the date and time you collected it.
  2. Package your sample in the return materials provided.
  3. Post it back promptly, ideally on the same day and early in the week, so it reaches the laboratory quickly. Avoid posting just before a weekend or bank holiday, as delays can affect some markers.

Your results

Your results will be reviewed and made available to you once the laboratory has processed your sample. Because this test covers 47 biomarkers, our team will help you understand which results are most relevant and advise whether any further action is recommended.

If a result is unexpected or borderline, a repeat morning sample is often advised, as hormone levels can vary from day to day.

Keep your kit at room temperature, away from direct heat and sunlight, and use it before the expiry date printed on the pack. Do not use the kit if any seal is broken or a component looks damaged.

Once you have collected your sample, keep it cool and post it back as soon as possible, ideally the same day, so it reaches the laboratory in good condition. Do not freeze the sample.

Keep all kit contents, including the lancet, out of the sight and reach of children. Dispose of the used lancet safely as directed in the leaflet.
