Basic Testosterone Check, know your levels with confidence
If you have been feeling low on energy, noticing changes in mood, libido, strength or focus, your testosterone may be worth checking. The Basic Testosterone Check measures four key biomarkers from a single small blood sample, giving you and our clinicians a reliable snapshot of your hormone health, without a GP appointment or a trip to a clinic.
This test is designed as a straightforward first step. It tells you whether your testosterone sits within the expected range for your age, and gives our team the information needed to advise on next steps if anything looks out of range.
What this test measures
- Total testosterone, the overall amount of testosterone circulating in your blood, including hormone that is bound to proteins and hormone that is free.
- Free testosterone, the small, unbound fraction of testosterone that is biologically active and available for your body to use. This is calculated from your total testosterone, SHBG and albumin results.
- SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin), a protein that binds tightly to testosterone and controls how much is available to your tissues. SHBG helps put your total testosterone into proper context.
- Albumin, a protein that binds loosely to testosterone. Measuring it allows an accurate calculation of your free and bioavailable testosterone.
Measuring all four together matters because total testosterone on its own can be misleading. Two men with an identical total result can have very different amounts of active hormone depending on their SHBG and albumin. By including these proteins, this panel allows a calculated free testosterone, widely regarded as a more meaningful marker of how much usable testosterone you actually have.
Who this test may suit
- Men experiencing tiredness, low mood, reduced sex drive, erectile difficulties, loss of muscle mass or difficulty concentrating.
- Men who simply want a baseline reading of their hormone health as part of a general wellbeing check.
- Men monitoring their levels over time, for example alongside lifestyle changes.
This is a screening and wellbeing test. It is not a diagnosis. If your results suggest a possible testosterone deficiency or another concern, our team will explain what they mean and recommend appropriate next steps, which may include repeat testing or a discussion with your GP.
