Optilast price guide: compare bottles and the full bill

An Optilast price comparison needs the bottle size beside every figure. The Care Pharmacy lists a 6ml bottle of 0.05% eye drops at £9.99, plus delivery. Boots lists an 8ml bottle at £15. These are the same named medicine and strength, but different quantities, so the headline prices are not a like-for-like saving.

What do the listed bottles cost?

For one bottle from The Care Pharmacy, £9.99 plus £3.99 standard delivery gives an illustrative total of £13.98. Boots advertises an 8ml bottle for £15 with free standard delivery. Its bottle contains 2ml more. The practical choice starts with the quantity prescribed and the final price for that quantity.

This guide covers those two providers only. The Care Pharmacy supplies Optilast and produced the comparison. Public prices were checked on 19 October 2026, without discount codes or subscription offers. The figures do not establish the lowest price across every UK pharmacy.

Optilast price comparison: keep bottle sizes visible

Optilast 0.05% eye drops · 19 October 2026
Provider Listed bottle Medicine price Medicine cost per ml
The Care Pharmacy 6ml £9.99 £1.67, rounded
Boots Online Doctor 8ml £15.00 £1.88, rounded

Cost per millilitre is a way to compare the amount of liquid, rather than a recommended dose or a prediction of how long treatment will last. It excludes postage. Both rows identify Optilast 0.05%, also written as azelastine hydrochloride 0.5mg/ml; 0.5% would be a different concentration.

A lower bottle price can be useful when you need a smaller supply. A larger bottle may have a different practical value for someone with an established treatment plan. Neither observation means you should change the amount used or buy an extra bottle.

For example, £9.99 divided by 6ml is about £1.67 per ml before delivery. Dividing £15 by 8ml gives about £1.88. Once our postage is added, the first calculation changes to £13.98 divided by 6ml, or £2.33. All three figures can be correct because they answer different questions.

You pay for a complete bottle, not a fraction bought by the millilitre. Unit costs therefore help explain the offers, but they do not create a cheaper purchase option or tell you how much liquid you will actually use.

Optilast price with standard delivery

Provider Medicine Standard delivery Illustrative total
The Care Pharmacy, 6ml £9.99 £3.99 £13.98
Boots Online Doctor, 8ml £15.00 Free advertised £15.00

The delivered difference is £1.02, while the bottle sizes still differ. After postage, the rounded cost per ml is £2.33 for our 6ml option and £1.88 for the Boots 8ml option. That is why a lower initial Optilast price should not be presented as better value under every measure.

Our delivery policy lists standard postage at £3.99, free for orders over £40. A single £9.99 bottle is below that threshold. Premium delivery costs more, and approval and dispatch happen before the carrier’s delivery period begins. Check the final quote for your address before payment.

These calculations use public medicine and standard delivery figures; they are not completed checkout invoices. Confirm any assessment, prescription or other charges in your own proposed order. Do not buy unnecessary medicine simply to reach a free-delivery threshold.

Check the pack before comparing another offer

Eye-drop searches can return products with similar names, different active ingredients and several bottle volumes. Opticrom and Optilast are not interchangeable names. Nor is every product described as an allergy eye drop an identical treatment. A cheaper result needs checking before it belongs in the same comparison.

  • Match the medicine name and the 0.05% strength.
  • Record the volume of each bottle and the number of bottles.
  • Separate the bottle price from delivery and any other mandatory charge.
  • Check whether a quoted price depends on a bundle or introductory offer.

A hay fever bundle may include tablets or a nasal spray as well as eye drops. Dividing its total into an assumed eye-drop price would be misleading. Compare the complete bundle only if all of its medicines have been recommended for you; otherwise request the separate bottle cost.

Keep a note of the offer date. A saved search snippet may show an earlier price or omit a delivery condition. When you return to order, use the current pack selection and final bill rather than assuming that the old headline remains available.

An opened bottle is not a long-term supply

Optilast contains an antihistamine for allergic eye symptoms. The current Optilast product information limits a treatment course to six weeks and advises medical review if symptoms worsen or do not improve after 48 hours. It is not intended to treat an eye infection.

The leaflet gives an opened-bottle expiry as well as the expiry printed on the pack. Write down the opening date and follow the supplied leaflet. Do not keep using leftover drops simply because the bottle is not empty. That can also make a large bottle less economical than its cost per ml suggests.

Before ordering a repeat, check how much remains and when the bottle was opened. If a clinician recommends another medicine, ask how that changes the treatment plan and budget. Buying the same bottle again is not automatically the most useful response to symptoms that have changed.

Ask about contact lenses: the preservative can affect soft lenses, which should be removed before application and not reinserted for at least 15 minutes. Tell the clinician about pregnancy, breastfeeding, other eye treatment and previous reactions. Wait until any temporary blurred vision clears before driving.

When eye symptoms need a different next step

Do not let an Optilast price search delay assessment of painful or unusual symptoms. The NHS red-eye guidance recommends urgent help for a very painful red eye or a red eye in a contact-lens wearer. Changes in sight or pain when looking at light need emergency assessment.

For allergy symptoms without those warning signs, our hay fever service can assess the symptoms and discuss suitable treatment. Describe whether one or both eyes are affected, how long symptoms have lasted and which medicines you have already tried. An examination or a different treatment may be recommended.

A prescription assessment is separate from deciding which offer to buy. The price cannot confirm the cause of a red eye, establish that this medicine suits you, or replace the directions on your dispensing label.

Optilast price questions

Why is your bottle cheaper than the Boots bottle?

Our listed bottle is 6ml at £9.99, while the Boots offer checked is 8ml at £15. Different volumes and delivery terms explain why both the bottle price and the full bill need to be shown.

Is the £9.99 Optilast price the delivered total?

No. A single bottle is below our free standard delivery threshold. Adding £3.99 standard postage gives £13.98 under the checked terms; verify the final amount before paying.

Does 0.5mg/ml mean a stronger product than 0.05%?

No. Those expressions describe the same concentration of azelastine hydrochloride. Keep the bottle volume separate from the strength when checking a quote.

Can I compare a two-bottle bundle with one bottle?

Show both the total bundle cost and the total volume, but do not call it an identical one-bottle offer. Request only the quantity agreed with your clinician.

Can I buy Optilast without an assessment here?

Supply through our online service requires a clinical assessment. You may be offered another option or advised to seek an examination if the symptoms need it.

Discuss your treatment and full cost

Check the current 6ml bottle and delivery terms, then discuss whether allergy eye drops suit your symptoms. You can review the proposed treatment and full cost before deciding.
