Otomize price guide: compare generic ear spray costs

An Otomize price comparison now needs to explain generic supply. The Care Pharmacy lists a 5ml ear spray from £10.99, plus delivery, and a generic version may be supplied. Chemist4U lists its generic 5ml option at £11.29. Branded Otomize was discontinued, so a familiar name in a search result does not establish that the original branded pack will be supplied.

The small price difference becomes smaller after postage

A single 5ml bottle from The Care Pharmacy gives an illustrative total of £14.98 when £3.99 standard delivery is added. Chemist4U’s £11.29 bottle plus £3.95 standard postage gives £15.24. Under these advertised terms, the difference is 26p.

The Care Pharmacy supplies the treatment and produced this guide. Our comparison covers these two providers, checked on 19 October 2026, without discount codes. It is a limited sample, not evidence of the lowest UK-wide price. The small gap is worth showing accurately rather than overstating.

Why the Otomize name needs explaining

Community Pharmacy England reported that branded Otomize was discontinued and that the manufacturer introduced a generic equivalent. Remaining branded stock could be supplied while available. The generic contains dexamethasone, neomycin sulfate and acetic acid.

Those ingredients have different roles: dexamethasone reduces inflammation, neomycin is an antibiotic, and acetic acid helps create an acidic environment in the ear canal. They are combined in a prescription ear spray for suitable outer ear infections. Packaging can look different even when those named ingredients and strengths match.

The Care Pharmacy may supply a generic version. We do not promise a branded Otomize pack. Chemist4U explicitly identifies its offer as generic. Ask the dispensing pharmacy which product has been prescribed if the packaging or label is unfamiliar; do not infer a change in dose from a different box.

A listing that still uses the original brand name is not, by itself, proof of branded stock. That is also why this guide does not add an old branded price to a table of currently described generic offers.

If you already have a prescription naming Otomize and cannot obtain the brand, ask the dispensing pharmacy what needs to happen next. Community Pharmacy England advises pharmacy teams to contact the prescriber for a replacement generic prescription when the prescribed brand is unavailable. Do not alter the prescription or buy a different ear medicine solely because its packaging looks similar.

Otomize price comparison for 5ml ear spray

5ml ear spray offers · 19 October 2026
Provider Supply description Medicine price Standard postage
The Care Pharmacy Generic may be supplied £10.99 £3.99
Chemist4U Generic equivalent £11.29 £3.95

The medicine-only gap is 30p. Once the different postage charges are added, it falls to 26p. Both prices refer to one 5ml bottle. Chemist4U explicitly includes its consultation and private prescription in the advertised treatment price; check the complete proposed order and any charges before you pay.

The matching strengths are dexamethasone 0.1%, neomycin sulfate 0.5% and acetic acid 2%. A single “0.5%” label does not describe the entire combination. Compare all three ingredients, the spray form and the bottle volume, rather than matching one percentage on its own.

Drops sold for wax, pain relief or mild ear irritation may contain different ingredients. Their price can be relevant if a clinician recommends them, but they are not an identical substitute for this three-ingredient spray.

Otomize price with standard delivery

One-bottle worked totals · 19 October 2026
Provider Medicine Standard postage Illustrative total
The Care Pharmacy £10.99 £3.99 £14.98
Chemist4U £11.29 £3.95 £15.24

Our delivery policy gives free standard delivery for orders over £40. Chemist4U advertises free standard delivery over £39. Neither single bottle reaches its provider’s threshold. Premium services and postcode restrictions can change the bill.

These are worked totals from the public charges, rather than completed orders. Delivery estimates follow clinical approval and dispatch; they cannot promise that a particular medicine will arrive in time for symptoms that need prompt assessment. Choose a clinical route first if you are unwell.

  • Check that the quote is for one 5ml spray.
  • Confirm whether the supplied pack is generic or branded.
  • Review delivery, prescription and any other mandatory charges.
  • Keep the agreed directions and follow-up advice with your order.

If one provider recommends a different treatment after assessment, compare that new proposal on its own terms. Do not use the old Otomize price as a reason to reject a clinically appropriate change or to seek an unsuitable medicine elsewhere.

The ear needs the right diagnosis

The ear spray product information excludes use when a perforated eardrum is known or suspected, or when a grommet is present. Tell the clinician about previous ear surgery, eardrum problems and reactions to medicines. Pregnancy, breastfeeding and other ear treatments also need discussing.

An outer ear infection affects the canal leading towards the eardrum. A middle ear infection, wax blockage and fungal infection can need different management. Examination may be needed to establish what is happening; an online assessment cannot always settle that question.

Follow the supplied label and leaflet. Do not share the bottle or keep restarting an old course whenever itching returns. If treatment is not helping, ask for review rather than buying another bottle. The product information advises discontinuing treatment if there is no clinical improvement after seven days.

The NHS ear-infection guidance advises urgent help for symptoms including swelling around the ear, new hearing loss, discharge or feeling generally unwell. Diabetes or a weakened immune system also changes the urgency. Contact an urgent GP service or NHS 111 rather than waiting for delivery.

What to tell the assessing clinician

Describe the pain or itch, when it started, whether one or both ears are affected, and any discharge or change in hearing. Mention swimming, earplugs, hearing aids and treatment already tried. These details help the clinician decide whether a spray is appropriate or an examination is needed.

Our swimmer’s ear treatment guide explains symptoms and safe next steps in more detail. This comparison concentrates on the pack and bill. Neither a lower price nor recognition of the Otomize name confirms that your current symptoms are the same as a previous infection.

For repeat problems, ask why they are recurring. The useful outcome may be a different treatment or an examination, rather than a larger order of the same spray.

Otomize price and generic supply questions

Is branded Otomize still made?

Community Pharmacy England reported that the brand was discontinued and replaced by a generic equivalent from the manufacturer. A pharmacy’s use of the Otomize name does not guarantee a branded pack.

What is the delivered starting cost at The Care Pharmacy?

The listed 5ml spray is £10.99. With £3.99 standard postage, the illustrative total is £14.98 under the checked terms. Confirm your final quote and supply details.

Is generic ear spray the same as ordinary ear drops?

No. This comparison concerns the named dexamethasone, neomycin and acetic acid combination. Wax-removal products and other ear drops can contain different medicines and need separate consideration.

Does the 26p difference mean your service is always cheaper?

No. It describes the two advertised one-bottle offers and standard delivery terms checked on 19 October 2026. Different delivery choices, fees or updated prices can change the result.

Can I request the spray for any earache?

No. The cause and location of the problem matter. A clinician may recommend an examination or a different treatment, particularly with discharge, hearing changes or eardrum concerns.

Discuss your treatment and full cost

Review the current 5ml spray information and tell the clinician about your ear symptoms and previous treatment. If a prescription is appropriate, confirm the supplied product and full cost before proceeding.
